A Guide to Hascombe

From Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to stunning cycling and walking trails to our magnificent St Peter's Church, Hascombe is home to countless hidden gems. Here are just a handful of the best places to visit, all of which just happen to be right on our doorstep.

Visit Hascombe in the Surrey Hills

Hascombe is a very old (but very beautiful) village and our pretty-as-a-picture pub is surrounded by Surrey’s most spectacular countryside. There are bucket-loads of ways to while away those glorious holiday (or weekend away) hours.

If you’re keen on slipping on your walking boots and hitting the trail, there’s more than a handful of local routes to explore. Dogs are most welcome at ours, and we’re sure they’ll be happy with the tail-waggingly good walks on our doorstep.

Winkworth Arboretum (1.5 miles)

Winkworth Arboretum is basically nature’s VIP lounge, welcoming you all year round with a new look every season. Whether you’re strolling through the woods with the fam, snapping pics, or getting your artistic juices flowing, this place has you covered.

Each season brings its own flair, making it the perfect spot to keep coming back to.

Hydon’s Ball and Heath (1.8 miles)

Hydon’s Ball is basically Surrey’s version of a rooftop bar – except it’s a hill, and the views are way more epic. Perched high up, this spot boasts a seriously steep, woodsy slope that serves up jaw-dropping vistas of the countryside all the way to the Sussex border.

You’ll feel on top of the world – literally!

Greensands Way (12.6 miles)

The Greensand Way is like the ultimate countryside road tri – except on foot. Stretching 108 miles (174 km) from Haslemere in Surrey to Hamstreet in Kent, this trail takes you on a scenic adventure along the Greensand Ridge, with stunning views of the Surrey Hills and Chart Hills.

It’s mostly all rural vibes – think forests, fruit orchards, and hop farms in Kent. Plus, you’ll cross paths with the Stour Valley Walk near Pluckley. It’s the perfect way to get lost… but in a good way!

Dunsfold Aerodrome (5.3 miles)

Dunsfold Aerodrome is like Surrey’s hidden gem for speed freaks. Tucked between the villages of Dunsfold and Alfold, this unlicensed airfield is a playground for high-speed action.

It’s most famous for being the home of Top Gear’s legendary test track – where cars go to show off their best tricks. Oh, and did we mention that Lotus designed the track? Yeah, some of their Formula One cars have been pushed to their limits right here. Hold onto your helmets, folks.

St Peter’s Church (0.4 miles)

This church, crafted by Woodyer, channels some serious late 13th-century vibes, but with a twist! Made from Bargate stone – quarried right in the parish – and topped with a charming shingled bellcote, it’s like stepping back in time… but with a little more flair.

The oak timber in the porch is like a recycled antique- coming from the old porch to keep things rustic. And the door? It’s got a hefty mid-Victorian lock, custom-made to match the ancient key that’s been used by the Rectors of Hascombe for centuries to unlock their very important duties. It’s history, with a hint of “we mean business.”
